1. First day @ work . It was soo damn good. I am too tired to write more. Well, I am gonna take a long time to feel comfy wearing makeup and push up heels, but then, I also realised how claustrophobic H********, that I earlier interned with, used to make me feel. Yuck !!! Good riddance to a lot of things I used to hate !!!
He smells me, he smells me not ....
Laid-back Delaware, the beach houses as we drove down the coast, getting wet head to toe in the Altantic Ocean, seagulls, and the trailers, and camping and Nascars, and the crazy sale at factory outlets, cuddling up with a Clive Cussler, launchcast playing out from the lappie, staying in pyjamas all day. Business casuals to work next week. Followed by Indy GP. Too much to write about.
Shall be back with more.
Happy Birthday Junior...
Zen and Tao would be proud of...

Well, it was cheesy in a lot of parts, but then overall, I did enjoy it.
My lethargy has reached new levels, to the extent that I have started attributing all my lack of motivation to "gradschool end-of-the-year burnout syndrome". I really dont care, I sleep until noon, bunk classes, eat like a pig and sleep like a donkey, shout at my mom over international calls and think about why suddenly everyone around me is married/engaged/committed/expecting a baby/gay.
And oh, it happened. I must admit, I didnt see this coming. I mean, all people around me were getting married and all, but it did not hit me hard, until I saw this mail sitting in my inbox."I AM GETTING ENGAGED". It was from someone in the gang.I mean, it hits you hard.Yesterday we were this bunch of people shouting outside MB at odd hours and getting reprimanded from Mbans. And today, one of us, is actually getting married. Man, I tell you, it is a huge deal.
And then he walked in to the office. So damn cute looking, and full of energy, making everyone stop what they were doing and take notice. But he left in five minutes.
As he left, he came up me,and threw himself around me.A bear hug and a very cute kiss followed.Followed by more sloppy kisses. He is such a darling.
I pulled him closer again and kissed him.I love Merick.
So anyway, the past few weekends have heralded an overdose of Indian stuff. It began with an ISA(Indian Students Assoc.) Holi bash - good food, singing and dancefloors. The next week saw me sit through an abysmally boring Bharatnatyam performance. This weekend,I, armed with a new haircut ,hit the dance floor(although I was late enough to miss the free food), and joined the singing with our Desi DJ , flown in all the way from Atlanta.Sunday was marked by, standing in the line for what seemed like eternity to get some really insipid food that I had lost all appetite for.I then hosted Jayanthi Kumaresh(I was tempted to tell her a lot of times, how I have shamelessly lech at her hubby, and missed tests at BITS just to see her hubby in concert!!!), and compered a really awesome Jugalbandhi of the Veena and Sitar(by Gaurav Mazumdar).
Well, with the Internship just round the corner, my already waning study hours are almost non-exsistent now.Correspondingly, the number of absolutely heinous movies I have watched lately have increased.Sometimes I wonder why I subject myself to movies like "Devadayai Kanden".Well, of course I get awfully pissed seeing such movies, and not only that, well, the discussion that ensues, does nothing good to my already strong opinions about how MCPness is ingrained in the Indian culture.
I could go on for pages and pages, about this thing alone, but I'd rather not.Over the years I have learnt that there as many female MCPs as there are male feminists.I mean, it takes all types to make up the world. What I dont understand though, is how movies such as these, and dialogues like these are met with furious cheer from even the urban tamil population. It just reflects a very skewed outlook of a society at large.
And makes me much more cynical of Tam men than ever.
Q:If april showers bring may flowers, what does may flower bring?
A:Pilgrims!!!
Yes, today is one of those lucky days when, between those horrendous equation slides, and a really big peice of code you wrote suddenly not making sense to you, you discover this post lying in your blogger drafts!!!!
Yesterday , my roomie's future Mother-in-law had sent her some wedding invitation ideas. The three of us were working to come up with a novel yet formal wording for the invitation. And :
Mr.ABC and Mrs. XYZ ABC
Oops, Boss wants the db complete by today..
Advisor wants the ppt ready by today....
Aw AW !! I absolutely have to do laundry today..
Oops!! It is my cooking turn today...
And then it happened.Through the earphones flowed lilting Anandhabhairavi- "Ksheera saaga vihara..."In an auto response, fingers move out of the keyboard, and started tapping "Kanda chapu" rythmically.I close my eyes and take in all the Anandhabairavi I possibly can. I picture the song as a mom, slowly caressing the child first ,and then rocking it with rythmic motions as the child trustingly, relaxes in her arms. And the way the notes slowly, intoxicatingly fill my senses- it is an incredible high, that I so bad at explaining. No matter how many times I ve sung this, or heard it - this song is very, very evocative - in a mysterious, haunting elusive kind of way.
And then the music stopped.Suddenly , and without warning , i was thrown back to the world of db and Markovian queues :(
It is soo traumatic you have no idea !!!
Monday through Thursday : Warm and sunny, sweaty.
Friday : Severe rains , thunder and lightning.
Saturday : Light snow, cold winds !!!!
Bloody !! And they call ME unpredictable !!!!
Anyways , the week so far :
Friday night :
A cold, dark room, occasionally lit up in brilliant white by the lightning outside.Roaring thunder broke the silence of the night.Snuggled up in a comforter - a laptop, earphones, a mug of cold chocolate and microwaved ramen noodles giving me company as I watched "Forrest Gump".
Life doesnt get better than this believe me!!!
Life is soo beautiful!!!
Saturday afternoon :Still inside the comforter, too lazy to go and get breakfast or lunch or whatever.. This time its "Vanilla Sky".
Saturday Evening :WTF !!! I have shitloads to do!!!
Later saturday evening :Ok, maybe I should check my yahoo, gmail, snailmail, whatever mail...
10 mins later :Ok now focus ..."Markovian Queues in Equilibrium".. What ? This comp doesnt have an equation editor!!!
Later : Its been ages since I went to Subway.Yeah, Jimmy Johns is a million times better, but too lazy to walk up to it.
Later :Hmm, Its been long since I blogged.I really should break this dry spell.
Much Later :"Roja" DVD checked out from Langsam.Hmm, heavenly music... Maybe I ll just check out that Hidumba temple scene again.. Well, maybe I ll watch the whole movie.. ..
Will be back with more !!!
What is your happy place?
PHOEBE: ( in a soothing voice) Relax every muscle in your body. Listen to the plinky-plunky music. Okay, now close you eyes, and think of a happy place. Okay, tell me your happy place.
MONICA: Richard's living room, drinking wine.
PHOEBE: All right. No, no, no, not a Richard thing, just put down the glass. And get out!
MONICA: I'm sorry, but that's my happy place.
PHOEBE: Well, okay, fine, use my happy place. Okay, I'm just gonna, I have to ask that you don't move anything.
MONICA: All right, I'll try not to.
PHOEBE: Okay, all right, so, your in a meadow, millions of stars in the sky....
MONICA: Do you think breaking up with him was a huge mistake?
PHOEBE: All right, there are no questions in the happy place. Okay, just, the warm breeze, and the moonlight flowing through the trees....
MONICA: I'll bet he's totally over me, I'll bet he's fine.
PHOEBE: All right, betting and wagering of any kind, are, I'm sure, not permitted in the happy place. Okay. Just-just, you know, the-the lovely waterfalls, and the, the trickling fountains. And the-the calming sounds of the babbling brook....
MONICA: Okay, this isn't working. I'm still awake and now I have to pee.
I guess I have two happy places. The second one, is a clear blue evening, around 6.I stand just outside my house in the Ashram, and look out to the meadows.Atop the small hillock, there are remains of what was once a small temple. The sparse vegetation gives away to a meandering brook at the distance.Thick vegetation beyond the brook is shrouded in mystery.
The first one, surprises me.Pleasantly.
What is your happy place ?
I mean, I suddenly wake up Sunday morning, and I think..What happened yesterday night?
I mean, was I hallucinating? Or did it really happen?
If I was dreaming, then .. Damn me !!
If it really happened , then.. WHAT was I thinking ??
Hmm,If you are meeting him for the first time, you will think he is 15.But once you get to know him, things will change. You will think he is all of two years old(And G , thats NOT a compliment!!).That being said,he took my cherished position.(Well, I am so used to being the youngest in any group of people, but he snatched it away from me in the "Kuttisuvars").
Its been around seven months since we all landed inthe US of A.Not for G.He talks and walks like he owns the place, with an accent that he thinks puts even the ABCD chicks he tries to "correct" to shame.
Hmm,you would think a normal Desi veggie guy can eat pretty much anything veggie available in the US.Our guy cant eat tomato, onions, spicy food, tea or coffee.Hmm, and just when you sympathetically offer him the option of cereals, surprise ! seems like acid reflux is not the end of his woes-lactose intolerance!!!Cut to reality and u can see this guy peacefully sitting in Thai Express hogging away a Thai fried rice - spice levels of 5/6 :))And the next thing you know "kiddo"'s grandmom is flown all the way from India to take care of him!!
Hmm, so anywayz, calls himself a good "nanban".Picture this.
"Sang,i ll surely come to Deepotsav, after all you are performing"
Later:
"Hey, so how was it?"
"How was what"
"The performance , stupid"
"I dont know.. I was outside.. wow that hot chick, she just stepped out,and I couldnt take my eyes off her..Hey.. btw, you know her right.. then what are u waiting for? wherez my intro"
Flashback :
(BITS,Pilani : "kats, mar,so your coming to TAP tommorow right?Cmon guyz, I am singing"
"What? we cant sit through some boring carnatic concert just because you are in it.Besides, its a sunday morning 9 o clock, I have a wing cricket match"
"Sang, I have this lab work to complete, I really wish I could come though"
"Well, too bad then,I ll tell DR I wont be inviting anyone then"
"What?DR is in this too?? To hell with lab work and cricket matches,we are in !!")
End of Flashback.
Cut to the present :
"Hey you said you were in Dyer hall"
"Yup, my office is right behind the photocopy shop-the one with all those college teams banners stuck on the walls"
"Alright then, I ll drop by and say Hi"
"Ok cool"
"Hey did you say K(my fellow GA) was going to be in today??"
Oh,or this:
Midnight 2:30 My phone rings. My roomie tosses.I make a dash for thephone.
"Hey, were you sleeping?"
" WHAT??"
"Oh,so you were sleeping is it?"
"Yes you moron"
"And I woke you up??"
"Yeah..."
"Hey, are you fully awake??"
"Hmm.. yeah "
"Ok, bye then, my job is done then.I am switching off my phone.Talk to you later.Good night!!"
Hmm,if you would think that having someone in UC who lived half a street and 2 apartments from YOU in Trichy would be fun get this.
In a gang:"Sang, who was your first crush"
"Hey, my first real life crush was this greeting shop guy, across the street you know"
*loud guffaws*
"Hey, his name is ~A right? He was my neighbour.. he studied in.. his sister is now in... ..bla bla blaa. . his mail id is bla bla .. guess who will look like a fool when I tell him all about what u did .."
Or this :
" Yeah, so anyway, that couZ I dont like, came online today, and I escaped to invisible mode you know"
"What? you did this to V, my school senior? How cheap of you sang! Well, anyway now he is in bla bla right? How is his bro doing? Its been a long time you know.Is he back from the trip yet?"
Hmm, the thought that anyone can give Mr.Fitting Kumar himself a run for his money, is unimaginable right? Our Mr.G does a very good job of it.Ask him how was the game today, and he will launch into a tirade and UC "out of the world"defence ploy, even when the Bearcats were ambushed by Kentucky.
Ok now, have I told you guys about the "Can I borrow a quarter" story?Or the football story? Oh well, I am hungry now.So someother time.As I said,Any references to the words"Coercion","Chipotle" and "Treat"are purely coincidental and does not mean what you think it means.
"Algos!!" , "Stats!!"- she is an old hag,
Carrying an out of style pink bag,
That houses a 1870 "Vogue" mag
In whose weight her shoulders sag.
Paati, Oh my dear !
Death beckons you not, dont you fear;
But why the monologue with the weekend near
Oh! Is that a Base-Theorem lullaby I hear ?
Hubby dear awaits you in his car,
And I'd rather go to the coffee-hour,
And dip my hand into the delicious cookie jar
But Ash here would rather go watch gals in a Bar !!
Interrupted by someone's watch beeping a Friday evening 5 O clock, we stood up to go.But alas, my Miss.Destiny has other ideas.Starting 9 : 30 AM tommorow, and I am going to find myself sitting in one of her classes - for an entire quarter !!!!
Hmm !!! Does one good deed deserve another ??
A Short History of Medicine
"Doctor, I have an earache."
2000 BC: "Here, eat this root."
1000 BC: "That root is heathen. Say this prayer."
1850 AD: "That prayer is superstition. Drink this potion."
1940 AD: "That potion is snake oil. Swallow this pill."
1985 AD: "That pill is ineffective. Take this antibiotic."
2000 AD: "That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root."
The perfect match
The two were thrilled to get there. It wasnt a first rush, impetuous thing. I was a part of an ongoing, gradual process of tuning into each other.
Expectations? Well, they knew right from the start that it was an uphill, daunting task. But irrespective of the outcome, they deserved being where they were, and were going to enjoy it while it lasted.
It was two years ago.March 23,2003. India met Australia in the WC finals.Perfect match.Outcome-not favorable. The experience - worth a lifetime. Could India have done any better to win the match?Did they get overwhelmed? Was it because it was the first time for most people in the team? Would it have been a different outcome if they played anyone else? Will India ever get to a WC finals again?Too many questions. No right answers.
Well, you know what they say , it is not the destination. It is the journey.
"Oh.. look at the smile on her face"
"Thats cuteeee"
Now,they are thrilled to see someone so taken with these play things, that they want to take me to toys-R-us !!!(Thats right, when you are the youngest in the workplace, you have to deal with some pampering !!!)
So anywayz, for once, I dont have shitloads of assignments and tests to catch up on, no advisor meetings to worry about.. coz its not just any Friday, Itz the SPRING BREAK !!!!!!!!
Bye Bye Winter 2005 !!!!
Thank God !!! The quarter is over !!!
There is just too much to write about, and I really dont know where to start from.Hmm..playing host @ cincy followed by a whole week away at home in Maryland should do me a world of good - Yup, I am lucky I have an R&R spot in the US - bubble baths, reading up, lazing around in pyjamas, and dining out !!!! I am sooo looking forward !!!
And... hopefully a lot of blogging too!!!
So anyway, last March, was the best time ever.Hmm, those months and months of shopping for dresses, accessories, planning the wedding, those last minute hitches, the relatives, the glare, the cold feet, the high of welcoming a new member into the family, those cards sessions with cousins, the laughter, the fun, the excitement , the tiresomeness, those oldies tips on "doing it" :) .
Yes, thats a very chocolate-and-roses way of looking at life in general. But, Well, the one thing is brought home to me, is the shallowness of it all, and how utterly materialistic and phony the Tam-Bram society is. Yes, its all about who gets invited and who doesnt , its about who has a Merc E class and who doesnt, how many members of your family is in the US, how many stamps your passport has, what is the resolution of your camcorder, who sings at your reception, and how many items the menu had.Its about politics, settling old family scores, creating new ones, an utterly shamless waste of money, that shouts, "Look how well we have done for ourselves".
I mean, its utterly foolish to see a hard working middle class families, where one or both parents earn all their lives, saving up those precious rupees, investing wisely, spending laks and laks of money, inviting some third or fourth cousin from yesteryears you've hardly been in touch with. And the amount of food that gets wasted, the time and energy spent in organising it.. is it even worth it ?
I mean, in the end, marriage is supposed to be about the guy and the girl concerned. In this setup, it is everything BUT that.
So, forgetting the procedure as an external triviality, lets talk about the happy couple.Well, I have seen a whole range of them , from "I ll never see your face again" to "How did I even live without you all these years".And wow, they have been married for a year now !!!Time sure does fly !!!!
Happy First Wedding anniversary... Sis and Jeeju !!!
Hmm.. So now that its March 10.March has a lot of special dates. And, it just struck me, my anniversary isnt too far either.Sometimes I cant wait to post a special to mark this occasion. But again, I am such a bad writer when it comes to writing about myself. So I guess I am gonna wish myself a happy anniversary much before schedule.Blogging Anniversary, I meant , of course !!!
Happy Womens day!!
Yesterday : I look at myself in the mirror after a long time. What ? I mean , I had no illusions about my looks, but they way I look currently really puts dracula to shame.
What followed, was some effort increase my feel-good factor.Wore a kurtha, changed earrings, put on some lipstick, and best of all, wore some bangles !!!!
Now, as it turned out, the clinking of the bangles against the keyboard strangely didnt annoy me yesterday, and the sound infact kept me company in those god-forsaken place called grad lab, and most importantly kept me awake !!!!!
Though I dont possess many aspects of ,or rather what is widely stereotyped as the notion of "Girly", I am inordinately proud and happy being a woman !!! I wish I had more time to worry about my skin-tone or dark circles.. Nevertheless...We women rock !!!! HAPPY WOMENS DAY !!!
I dont know if I should feel relieved, or happy.I guess I have reached a point where it doesnt matter anymore.I dont care.
Ha!! back to work.
Happy Birthday Yahoo !!!!

Life would have been much different without my 7-year old mail account, or the indispensable messenger,my photo album, or the thousand groups I subscribe to.Thanks Yahoo!!!!!(And oh, for sponsoring Cyberfiesta 2004 too!!!)
When you are expected to work 25 hours a day, there is little you think about other than sleep and food.I'd be lucky if I am alive by the end of next week. These days, contact with the outside world is limited to those rare calls, usually averaging less than two minutes, sorta like sending beacon signals.(What ??)Or to schedule wake-up calls.I am getting back, to my life of simulations and coding now. Ever wonder why UNIX has a header called curses.h ?
Of Religious Poetry and Romance....
Sometime later: Its 12 00 now, just came back after watching “Bride and Prejudice” in Esquire on Ludlow. The movie? the less said the better. (*read as future post material!!*)
So anyway, few days back, a late night, I was listening to some really good music, and acting “Wedding Planner” for my roomie, when we began recollecting a few stanzas of "Karnamrutham". I am not a real great fan of poetry in general, so religious poetry does not hold too much significance for me either. I definitely wasn’t the “Thirupugazh” chanting types. My association with this genre of poetry almost exclusively had to do with my Carnatic music, and trying in vain to memorize those mandatory stanzas before an exam, much to the chagrin of my tenth standard Tamil teacher or my Twelfth standard Sanskrit Teacher.

Sage Narada tells Lord Muruga about Valli , a beautiful tribesmaid in the hills.Lord Muruga, approaches Valli, but seeing the tribesmen arrive, he takes the form of a tree.
The next time,Lord Muruga comes to woo her, Valli is shocked and fears the tribesman. On hearing their trumpets, He assumes the form of an old Brahmin asking for food. She serves him food, and feeds him water, upon which he asks her to be his, again. She reproaches him this time too.
Unlucky in love, Lord Muruga approaches his elder brother, to help him out in this regard. Lord Vinayaka, assumes the form a huge elephant and approaches them.A frightened Valli seeks refuge in the Old sage’s arms. (Yes, they fall in love and all,and then after the usual opposition and stuff, they finally get married and live happily ever after!).(How nice Dipix looked playing the coy damsel... miss Raag..hmm!!! )
*. (When ancient Tamils went on pilgrimage, carried the offerings to the gods tied on the either end of the long stick, which was balanced on the shoulders. In order to lessen the boredom of the long travel they used to sing and dance about the gods. Kavadi Aattam has its origin in this practice. Special songs were created to be sung while carrying the Kavadi Sindhu. This dance is performed only by men. It is done by balancing a pole with pots fixed on either end, filled with milk or cocunut water.)

Paper Dues...
No grad student escapes this rite of passage - The paper review.
Hmm.. I have been visiting phdcomics too much lately, I still cant decide who I am more like,Tajel or Cecilia... Athough Tajel totally cracked me up with her election campaign, Cecilia happens to be "romantically challenged" .. While I ROFL with Mike and the rest.. you guyz amuse yourself with this one :

All the chocolates are over, only multi-colored wrappers remain.
I try not to glance in that direction, as they would remind me of the once-delicious mouth-watering goodies.
Yes, I know chocolates are bad for health. The palate refuses to listen sometimes!!!!
Btw.. on a different note,HAPPY VALENTINES DAY FOLKS!!!
Valdee special !!
My Valdee this time, is going to be very special and romantic.. check this out.
- Gifted myself a whole pack of Special Hersheys :))
- One of my friends was soo excited to see a notepad titled "Proposal" on my lappie.Amidst the tripping and guessing who it could be and already deciding where I should be honeymooning, I had to stop her, open it, to reveal a project proposal for my advisor.
- I spend too much time in 828 ERC, that I have begun to think chopsticks look sexy, and that "haad wak bling mou knalegment" !!!(Dont even ask me what that means!!)
- The Red Pepper girl never seems to get tired of seeing me daily, although I still have trouble making her understand that "Vegetarian" means "No pork"every time. But otherwise,I know all the fortunes in the fortune cookies by-heart, and now even the "Behind every successful man, there are other men" doesnt seem funny with the "in bed".
- I can't wait for Feb 14. My life is so going to be different that day.I have "special plans"of visiting the medical center in addition to ghoting for the next day's midterm.(Or.. "mee taen").
- Dig this :
THE OTHER END:"WHAT ?? You have a movie ?? And you cheapo!!!
Didnt even tell me ??"
ME:"Yeah !!! It only has about a thousand papers me and labmates are
supposed to make sense of!!"
And, to top it all, my To-do list(which I spent only four hours searching for the best software on the net because "I badly needed to manage my time better") is overflowing.....So.. more than a week early...Happy feb 14.. or whatever folks!!
Man!! Am I nerdy or what !!!
I wish I saw reader's reactions as they read and re-read to make sure they got the "Nerdy" part right !!!
It is in this general setting that one day, I had this epiphany at work.Well,to be more specific, when I was just packing up from work one day. There is this person, in my office, female,40 never been married, who lives by herself. I just casually mentioned to her how I really admire her, and cant wait to stay by myself when I earn enough. What followed was a series of discussions, that got me thinking.Have you thought about living alone ? Answers in my workplace ranged from"No, that thought has never crossed my mind" to "Well, mm.. I dont know.." to "Hmm.. I wish I had the opportunity".
Which brought home the fact, that maybe I am not made for a thing like marriage at all.(Ed..Sang you went down a hundred places on your "single and looking" index :)) ). And, coincidentally,I have always been fascinated by the thought of adopting a girl kid.My colleague began relating a story of how some seven to eight American families in her neighborhood have adopted Chinese girl kids. She went on to relate how those families strive to develop in their families a greater understanding of the kids native culture. So, two weeks ago,(Hmm.. finally the story begins!!!) I began thinking about adoption, in all seriousness.
How, who, and when? Will this fall under the International adoptions category? Are there agencies in India which let single moms adopt? What are Indian adoption laws like? When is the right time to start the proceedings? How am I going to raise that kid?Would my family understand?Would they be supportive? Are marriage and adoption mutually exclusive?Do I have what it takes to be a good mother?Hours of research on the net(yup, there is your desigrad talking!!), egroups, chat rooms, and talking to people, and soul searching and marathon home calls ensued.
There are about 600 Indian kids being adopted in the US per year.More number of chinese kids are adopted. I have read numerous stories of American parents, decorating houses with Indian arts, reading out Ramayan to their kids, take them to classical concerts, to honor their Indian heritage.People living worlds away feel strongly about infanticide, and raise children of different races in their households, and enrich their lives. On the other hand, there is us,who have seen suffering, and lack of opportunity in graphic detail. Why arent we doing much about it ? Has seeing too much of all this numbed our senses ??
On a seemingly unrelated note,I was on a vacation when the Tsunami disaster happened. My inbox was flooded with mails from concerned colleagues equiring if my family back home was ok, and asking if they could in anyway contribute to help. In the Tsunami fund raiser yesterday, one of my friends related the story of how they were travelling by the Metro bus,to get to the fundraiser.Casually chatting up, the bus driver equired where they were going, and why.As my friends were getting down, the driver handed them a five dollar note, asking them to contribute to the fundraiser on his behalf.
I am not drawing any conclusions here.I dont consider myself too patriotic. This is not a bunch of sentimental crap inspired by swades.(Incidentally, I havent seen the movie yet!!) I dont yet know fully how I would go about this process,I dont yet know how many people will understand my desire to adopt,I dont yet know how my career and adoption would fit in,but all I know is that if I can change the life of a small, innocent, kid, dumped by the world for no fault of hers, I know I will.
And I cooked a real good dinner after a while !!!!It usually happens that when I spend time cooking an elaborate meal (read as more than one dish !!!) I spend about an hour and a half from end to end, and by the time it is done, my appetite is all gone. Plus, I also grow to dislike the dish I took so long to prepare.
But Pongal was different.Of course, we had people come over, and had made both the sweet and hot varieties. (A long time ago, all us cousins, in my hometown, chewing on freshy cut sugarcane, watching the milk boil out of earthen pots, the fanfare...... )Anyway, for the first time, I actually did relish the food I cooked !!!
On a different note , weekend has been wonderful, more so because of the bonus day off.Going around in a GPS enabled state-of-the-art BMW doing publicity for a tsunami fundraiser, a surpise party for my roomie, and then all of us huddled up to watch, a , hold your breath.. telugu movie, and a nite-out laccha session, waking up to a white, snowy morning... I hate to switch back to the "Oh-I-have- so-much-more-to-do" mode :((
Sitting and doing some last minute assignment submission stuff, I just let music play in the background. This song played in the background. She came to our wing in our third year.We were worried if she would get along.Along she came,so wonderful and so friendly. She laughed with us, screamed with us, and before we knew it,she became an indispensable part of us.We did courses together, watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S all day in the wing,co-ordinated and hogged all home parcels, went on insane cnot fried maggie treats at 10 50,dressed up for saree days, discussed everything on earth, went to movies together, travelled together, and my gang just fell in love with her. Different psenti-sems parted us,but we would still keep in touch. And, now, I am waiting for her to come to this side of the world.Kutts, when I heard this song, asssignments or not, I knew I just had to write this post. There is just one person this song reminds me of.

Hum rahen ya na rahen yaad aayenge ye pal
Part of me is a little tired after posting in my new found fling - another not-so-private blog- The proverbial desert camel.
Part of me , well, is just trying to think of novel ways of dealing with life's many situations.
Would someone just show me the larger picture? So all of this can make sense?
Director, could you show me the screenplay for a bit please? Yes, I know the uncertainity is what makes the play gripping and all.But sometimes, It is a little frustrating to speak your lines with absolutely no clue where the scene and utimately the play ends.
My lappie is fully functional AND connected now!!!
My world just got infinitely better!!!
Well,on the flip side though,a wonderful vacation just ended, and whats more a whole new quarter is here!!!
But on the flop side,my work and class schedule for this quarter is much better than the last one.
In hindsight though,I think its high time I get myself a new pair of flip-flops.
Ok I know I should stop.
Just back from an amazing lunch session with Bugs and Ash. Homemade pasta,Taco salad, and NY at NY stories...Good fun!!!
PS: Is it just me or is "Pyar Kiya tho Nibhana...." from Major Saab really swell?
2004 ... another year gone by.Well, I know I should be looking back to recap the year that was.But well, that,I think was what I did the whole of 2004 - reliving 2003(Which btw,was awesome , in all respects!!).
Yeah..2004 was ok too. I ll stop right there.
Hope 2005 brings in the much needed clarity and happiness in all our lives.HAPPY NEW year.
Gotta continue watching "New years live with Anderson" on CNN now.Bye Bye!!!
But this one is ok... oh yeah.. a little more than ok :)
Things women love about men.
The way they clean their homes in a hurry right before we come over…only so they can apologise for ‘the mess’.
The way they make gagging sounds when you put in a CD that doesn’t have the words death, iron or metal on the cover.
The way they bring you flowers one fine day just coz you thought they weren’t the ‘flowers kind of guy’.
The way their faces light up when you cancel plans with them so they can go watch the football match at a friend’s house.
The way they make up for the cancelled date the next night.
The way they refrain from yelling ‘Damn you women drivers’ when a woman cuts into a lane in front of them, just ‘coz you would take offence.
The way they cringe when you refer to a private, ridiculously mushy moment between the two of you in front of their guy pals.
The way they propose- and no, we don’t mean the candles and flowers routine- we mean the complete lack of eloquence, the inner conflict so obvious on the outside, and the relief on their faces when we say yes, even when they knew we would accept.
The way they hopelessly trip all over themselves trying to explain something they know they’re going to be thrashed for.
The way they can go nuts over a train set irrespective of whether they are 5 or 35 years old.
The way they will make the NASA-engineered cappuccino machine, without referring to the manual, their mission for a Sunday.
The way they pack their luggage- of course men who efficiently pack their own luggage are far more attractive, but we’ve yet to find them.
The way they can set right our nastiest mood, even the ones caused by them.
The way they are always around to carry heavy things that we can’t quite manage to.
The way that they’ll eat everything that we can’t and shouldn’t and believe that they’re doing us a favour.
The clean and sexy nape of their neck (some of them, only!) after a haircut.
The way their hand reaches out to hold you from hurling over the car seat protectively, when they fly over a speed breaker.
And Men Return The Favour
The way they smell, always sweet, and even when there’s a muskiness, a sweet muskiness.
The way they make us feel, loved, warmed, confused, destabilized.
The way they never want to invest in the sure thing that we’ve found on the stock market.
The way they have saved some money when the sure thing that we found on the stock market begins to look like a sure thing for the headlines of the crime pages·
The way they sneeze; yes, yes, but when you’re in love, the way a woman sneezes can melt something inside you.
The way they do not hear anything they do not want to hear.
The way they hear things that you did not say but which you meant or your tone implied.
The way they always want to save money but beat you to the cab door.
The way they always want to save money but buy shoes.
The way they look in those silly shoes that have exactly three square millimeters of red leather in their construction.
The way they massage their feet after they take off those silly shoes.
The way they buy more silly shoes but this time in blue.
The way they insist that it isn’t blue but teal.
The way they comb their hair, standing at the mirror, assessing themselves.
The way they suddenly behave like naughty school girls and then suddenly morph into Earth Mothers, dispensing wisdom, soup and comfort.
Their loyalty.
Their intelligence.
The bravery with which they confront us, like kittens, when they know the physical odds are stacked against them.
The way they sound on the telephone.
The way they sound on the telephone, half an hour later.
The way they rake their fingers into their hair disheveling it into perfection.
The way they always wake up before you and then potter about so half-asleep you can hear them and feel all the better about dozing.
The way they sort of slump into you in the cab, secure that you’re there; it makes you feel like you could leap tall buildings and catch bullets in your teeth.
Snowy days ...
It was a snowy day.As she got up and looked out of her 9th floor penthouse, she could see the entire city, clothed in holiday white. Struting around in pyjamas, she curled up in a chaise lounge, nibbling at scented chocolates.
Oh damn,I must make a very terrible M & B author.
I didnt get snowed in, I didnt get involved in a steamy snow fight with a dashing hero, damn well, I wasnt even around to see the whole thing. I was some sunny 509.76 miles away from it all.Went around UMCP today, and wonder of wonders, bumped into a 2000 batch BITSian !! Well, as they say, you are never far from home!!!
Blogging is fun,but then,an extended holiday with family(or atleast a part of it!!),cooking, hogging, marathon conferencing, movies, calls, and of course the usual chatting and scrapping, delays posts on the Greyhound Journey or a Clive Cussler book review.
Oh damn, I am not a very good suspense author either !!!
2.MS passed away ...

10.Peppermint herbal tea and cookies - Best way warm up a snowy day!!!
Yes, it is 4 AM, and after unsuccessful attempts to ghot for 3 goddamn final components all on Monday, there is just one I wanna do... Get some really really peaceful sleep !!!!
Ms.Boss : She must be in her late forties.A trip to India apparently changed her outlook so much that her house doesnt have electricity or heating.Has daughters who drive her to work when she gets late.
Miss.Take-care Single : She is 42 and single. She is responsible for making me feel at home at workplace.Cheerful and talkative, sometimes labelled the office bully, she never fails to stand up for things she truly believes in.In her own words "Oh no, see I cant do this,me and my morals have to wake up together every morning!!".She thinks Americans are the most spoilt beings in the planet, and we have slipped into the habit of discussing everything about India and the US daily, a sort of a culture-exchange session, if you will. She sort of looks out for me,and in her mind I am still this "Small girl alone in a big new country"!!!Very concerned about the fact that I am still single, she tries her hand at matchmaking every time she meets any desi that drops by my office.
Miss So-UnAmerican GradAsssitant : She is 21,a grad student in Education. She worked her way through undergrad, and when she got an assistantship in gradschool, she was so happy she got herself a car.She still lives with her parents, calls mom from work, and stays at home for thanksgiving, cleans out the house.I am amazed how much I know about her family.I know her twin bro's birthdays, how they camp-out in the parking lot of BestBuy before thanksgiving, playing Poker with friends she can barely stand, how they are the "worst drivers ever", or how they go up to smokies every summer with their girlfriends, and of course, their dating record, pickup lines and so on.I know so much about her mom and dad, and how they had blown up a picture of her grandparents wedding snap for their Anniversary and how she is amazed they still fit into their wedding dresses.
Mr.Family Man :A formerly a much travelled Army man,he loves his brood of four daughters.A devoted family man,he drives his kids to school, stays up all night to take care of his newest 3 month old, and cries everytime he sees "Father of the Bride".
Mr.Sports Freak : A crazed Football freak, the types who would come to work and open espn.com before his Outlook. He suprised me by recognising a picture of Schumi and Barrichello on my wallpaper, and since then we have become F1 pals.He still cribs about the fact that F1 is not as popular in the US at it should have been, and since then we have been imparting F1 wisdom to our poor co workers.
Mrs.Big MOmmy : She must be in her late fifties or early sixties.A grandmom many times over, she never fails to bring yummy chocolates and home made cookies or her bear hugs to work.
The other day, I was talking about how I was performing for an Indian cultural event the next weekend. And I was wished "Break a leg"!!! Seeing the expression on my face, people went on to explain how it is a theatrical expression, against wishing an actor good luck. They stare at me quizzically when I talk about "long queues during thanksgiving" (I switched to using "lines" thereafter!!),and when they are warning me about how the weather gets nasty around thanksgiving, and touches thirties,at the back of my mind I am still working out to the F to C conversion.(Yes, the weather did get nasty, and it was nice seeing my first snow!!! Ok,discounting Kulu Manali for you perfectionists.. but whatever!!!).
It has been a good learning experience learning about the American Culture, firsthand.I personally think, media presents a very stereo-typical picture of the US.Much alike the India of fakirs and snake charmers that is portayed to the world.Yes, people do stay married for longer than a year too, and yes, families drive accross the country to be with each other on thanksgiving, grandparents still watch over the small kids, and daddies take pride in displaying thier kids drawings on their desks.
f6-Souls in ecstasy !!
I am no music critic, but I know good music when I hear it.AhirBhairavi and Malayamarudham, mixed so beautifully, heavenly voices presenting a very well orchestrated peice.Life cant get better folks !!!!
Souls in ecstasy....
Is what they call themselves.Believe me, just listening to them is is an experience I was fortunate enough to have had.I am very proud to have had a chance to perform with some of them.
Their latest production -Brahma's Dance had me mesmerized. Here's hoping they go places.Maybe I ll tell my grandkids about the time I went to school with these guys !!!
One more birthday to write about....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUGSY!!!!!
Hope the choco cake messed u up just enough so me and Shobi can style your hair a la Leona !!!!
But , as luck would have it, turns out attendance to this one is mandatory, and no more that 2 absences are permitted. So, cursing all Gods, for decreeing such a cruel thing as attending classes on me,I sauntered cooly into the last one, thinking of all possible ways to fruitfully spend an hour and fifteen minutes(That it was not 1:15 minutes, but only 50 mins, was a minor consolation for this soul!!!).But then, in a fortuitious turn of events ,me and a few of my friends, were comfortably seated behind a pillar.
"Cow-Bull!!!" said one."No , I protest, Hollywood!!!" said another. "Cmon guys, grow up!!! Didnt you see those chinks excitedly chattering away last seminar.. Cmon, lets stop acting nerdy and play Antakshari for God's sake!!!" said a third one."Hey, if we all walked off,do you think she would particularly notice??" said another. The lady in question, was a fragile old gray haired woman, the typical horn-rimmed ones, right out of an Enid Blyton novel.
"Look at her, she looks "Inniko naalaiko" "we decide. One thing lead to another and before we knew it me and ash were locking horns in a feirce battle - a poem writing competition on the woman herself.
My multi tasking ablilites also meant I was playing "Cow-bull" with my roomie seated beside me. Faster than we could say "Purdy" the weekend began.Needless to say, I was looking forward to this Friday's seminar for an hour of unlimited fun.I walked into the room, armed with a pack of chips and a new armory of games. To my utter consternation, all rows were filled to capacity. After an embarrassing 10 minutes jaywalking inside the seminar room, I found myself seated right under the professors nose. For some strange reason,Dr. HC found it necessary to look directly into my eyes and explain how you plot log graphs in some software.
Result : A badly sprained neck thanks to my incessant nodding.
Moral of the story :Bed and comforter are a person's best friends.
Suddenly I saw people getting into the ride. "Hey" I shout, but they are too excited to listen.I sit back and watch, as the ride goes higher. They close their eyes , thrilled by the high.A familiar nostalgic wave swept over me.I sit there, knowing, that the ride would take them higher, and at the highest point , stop for a second. Opening their eyes, they would find themselves on top of the world.
But Oh,the coaster would then go downhill too, I panic. It is a gravity defying fall, that would have the whole place go topsy-turvy.I start shouting to warn them, but then, I realise, they are just on the start of the ride. Not fair to be warned already.Just ride with the wind. And enjoy the high.Endure the lows. And, while we are at it, I just pray the Roller-Coaster guy forgets his keys, and these people ride on forever.
Oh , I am outta popcorn, I ll just grab somemore, and watch more people ride.
I was 9, and I came jumping home. I was all excited about my first excursion. It was one whole day and it took me through beaches, and factories and aquariums. You made sure I took morning breakfast, snacks, lunch hampers and a whole lot of water with me. I came home all elated and tired, with a bad headache, and shouted at you. You put me on your lap and made sure I slept well.
I didnt know you hadnt eaten all day, worried for my safety.
I was 16, and was excited about going to BITS.I was happy to leave home, and finally find the independence that I wanted. I was excited about having my own room, freinds to hang out with all day, and sleep late, miss lunches and what not. You travelled all the way accross the country, just to make sure I was all settled. I threw tantrums at you because you had a bad headache and wanted to borrow my balm. I was impatient to see you off and get going to classes.
I didnt know that you cried all the way back.
Every hols, I used to come home weary and tired. Sometimes, I cried for no reason at all, I used you as a punching bag for all my frustrations of the semester gone by. You waited , counting everyday off the calendar, wanting me to come back. I landed at home, only to visit my friend on the way. You waited with my favorite dinner menu, that I wouldnt eat for hours because of phone calls. You wanted to sleep beside me, to offer me comfort, but I would sit on the computer all night chatting away. You would come into my room in the morning, expectantly, hoping to have a conversation, and I would just have you cook for me and go away to sleep.
It was time to go back to college, I would keep running around the platform, meeting friends after the break and catching up on gossip. You would look away hoping I woudnt notice how you were trying to stem those tears. As the train started slowly, I would be comfortably ensconsed with friends, and you would keep waving on and on, hoping I would catch a glimpse, till the long train faded away into the horizon.
It was PS II time. You wanted to stay with me for six months. You wanted to make up for the time spent away from home. I cruelly said "NO", right on your face, and went on and on about an individual's private space, and respect for each others opinions and the like. You prayed for my making a Job, and when I did, you hoped I would stay nearby.I , on the other hand , was glad to see that my appointment letter had "Pune" written on it.I on the other hand, lectured about how higher studies is important at this stage in my career, and as to how I should make use of the opportunity at hand. You were very happy when I made my second job, hoping I would stay nearby. I rushed out of the VISA office, to see you anxiously waiting outside the consulate in the sweltering heat, only to tell you I am going away... half the world away from you.
You packed my bags, made all my lists meticulously as I was out partying with my friends ,the last few days. You prayed for me, and hoped everything was fine, and I was cribbing about not being able to spend my last birthday in India with my friends. The last few hours before take-off, you spent time alone at the house, because I was out for a haircut and meeting friends. You cried at the airport, and I, was worrying about whether my hand luggage had my favorite Sonu Nigam CD or not.
Mom and Dad,I am happy that you have finally gotten where you always wanted to be, and I want to wish you the very best in this new life you are about to embark upon. And yes, I love you. :)
First peice, was "Asathoma Satgamaya", an Indian tune set to music with the whole orchestra joining in. This was followed by a brief explanation of the main differences in style in Western and Eastern music. An awesome rendition of "Ahirbhairavi" set to these two different styles, one synthesized with an Australian Tribal tune, and the other, "Albela Sajan" from "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam"caught me unawares. Srinivas on the Tabla and Anupama on the Sitar were superb.
Next up, was a tune from the Middle East.It was a poem for peace, which was apparently found in the pockets of Itzhak Rabin, the day he was assasinated, and set to music recently. This was followed by "Bethelehemu" from Africa. In those days of the missionaries, the African tribesman, simply substituted some christian sounding words in thier tribal chants to fake conversion. This was followed by a very peppy Cuban number.
Back to Indian music, the band shared some experiences from ARR'S tour, before going on to perform his numbers "Ramta Jogi" from Taal .The next peice had me in tears, well, almost. Patrick, a percussionist in the troupe on the Gatam, Srinivas on the Tabla and a fivesome on the drums, set the stage for one of the most mesmerising peices of percussion play I have ever heard.A vocal recital (much like our jugalbandhi)between the ghatam and tabla players - well, it is not my first time, but then, just looking at Patrick, looking so much at ease with legs folded, wearing a black Kurtha and doing the Aadi Taal with both hands and reciting sequences of "Taa Dhin Dhin taa" with so much poise had me ashamed.(Legend has it, that he was so taken by the Maestro that he dyed his hair black when he went to meet him.) I mean, just looking at these wonderful Christines and Paulas decked in sarees and singing verses of "Mein prem ka pyala piya"nonchalantly before a predominantly Desi audience has me re-examine if I am really doing the right thing in life.(It also has me regret the countless wasted opportunities,to explore and learn more. Dr.Anil Roy, hope you are not reading this!!!)
There was a time when I was sure that music is, indeed my calling. It was put down to childish fantasies, and years later, I am still doing something I can barely stand. But I still dream, and my dreams only get stronger with such experiences.Maybe, just maybe, someday I ll find my true calling.Something which i truly love doing.Something meaningful for an existence.
Being Twenty-Something
They call it the "Quarter-life Crisis." It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now. You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere but that they areas confused as you.You look at your job... and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly yourealize that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't.
One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try to cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward. You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lay in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision.
You worry , about money, the future and making a life for yourself... and while winning the race would be great, right nowyou'd just like to be a contender! What you may not realize is thateveryone reading this relates to it.We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out. Send this to your twenty-something friends... maybe it will help someone feel like they aren't alone in their state of confusion... "I bend but I do not break."
It was a Monday morning. One of those proverbially horrendous ones. The types that make you ruminate on the larger meaning of life. One that leads you to think up stuff like "I had four years of paid(??) vacation at undergrad.I swear I want to make gradschool different.Maybe I should cut down on fun and get serious with life".
Along came the smokies trip.Once in a bluemoon,I told myself.A real good break before I take up rigors of gradschool,I told myself.I spend the last week catching up with all the backlog,on the homefront and otherwise. This Friday evening, chance bestowed on me a trip to lexington. And,a play by crazy mohan and troupe!!!!!!!
It was an extremely enjoyable outing, and of course, there was good food too!!!Plays by "crazy" involve comedy, for the uninitated, and loads of it.And, the clean variety.(Hard to believe, but true!!!).It is a typical drama that you and your family can sit together and watch/hear on those sunday evenings. I grew up on a steady diet of "Return of crazy theives" "Crazy theives of Palavakkam" and "Maadhu +2" when I was a kid.Audio cassettes were exchanged between cousins, and the latest expoits of Maadhu and Cheenu was one of the mainstays of any family get-together discussions. There were a few of us who could not only recite dialougues word-for-word,but also add very comic gestures and intonations to make it rip roaring.
Diwali,of course, was the one occasion which none of us would miss.Till I was about 10, I was lucky to have the kinda diwali one reads about in "Swami and friends".Getting up at four in the morning,we would find all our new clothes stacked neatly with a spot of turmeric on the edges.(That is supposed to ward off evil or whatever!!!)Paati used to have us form a line, and when it was our turn, we would sit atop a "Manai".This was proceeded by a red paste she would apply to our feet, and a spot of oil on our heads.(This is usually preceeded by sleepy protests of "Paati, we cant wash hair, its four and there is not enough "Venneer" of all of us!!!!").
After chittapa's incessant alarms and timeouts , the entire family used to assemble outside the porch for the fireworks. Thatta, on the other hand, unfailingly took up the task of taking the family's newest born to the farthest room, cushioning the little one with blankets until he/she was safe from the atrociously high decibel levels in the neighborhood.Appa took up the task of lighting small "color match sticks" for the faint hearted toddlers. The rest of us used to take turns in lighting and watching the dizzying array of "Thara chakrams" "Kambi mathaapu" "Saatai" and God knows what else. The highlight of the celebrations used to be the firepots. We used to take turns to position ourselves by the switch board, and switch off all exsisting light sources at the croacky "Lights off, now!!!"by one of my cousins.Pitch dark for a minute before a beautiful flowerpot went off.I think it was more the feeling of togetherness, than the coordinated "Lights off " routine.Every year, one of us in the cousins gang would do something smart-alecky and end up getting scolded at.But the mood was always festive, fun and undoubtedly warm.By dawn break, most of us,tired and hungry(My guy cousins would shoo us away and go ahead with some "macho" stuff...the "atom bombs" and "triple shots"!!!!!) , would go off and take comfortable positions on sofas , or better still on some cuddly aunts lap.The TV routine started off with the monoply channel DD churning out"Kirbanandha variyar"'s ponmazhigal or something.Of course, one of us giving a funny live commentary and mimicking him, ensured none of us ever heard any of his divine ramblings.
Food sessions - each of our moms would coordinate on what sweets and savories each one prepares, so that there wouldnt be too much of the same variety.A sumptuous array of murukku, thattai, adhirsams, mixture, mysore pak,ladoos,seedais.. (Wait wait.. I have to stop now to grab a tissue... to stop the drool..)would be followed by a recipe exchange session by the womenfolk.Someone just has to mutter "How nice if this was had with soooda oru coffee" and Bam!!!! The liters and liters of "Kaapi"would just keep flowing along with a "suvayaana pattimandram".(And I havent even tasted coffee so far!!! how did I manage that !!!!).
But midday, we would switch to listening comedy tapes by S.V.Shekar or Crazy Mohan.(I bet you guys are thinking "Huh!!! So FINALLY!!! Thats the goddamn connection!!!!")Outrageous jokes would follow, from each ones workplace or school or college. It used to be one hell of a hilarious session, with even the usually taciturn and serious thatha joining in with some particularly witty stuff from his work days.Lunch of course, was all about who could eat more of "Thayir vadai" or who could gulp down tumblers of yummy payasam. This would predictably be followed up by jokes about somones growing belly and futile attempts at the treadmills. And of course, the latest babe in my cousins college, and his futile attempts to impress her(This usually would fall in the late night,secret,"cousins-only" discussions in the "Motta maadi" but, the rascal would, sometimes get away with this at the lunch table too!!!!).
Now, in case you are wondering what happened to this fairy tale, nothing did.Time, just flew. And left all of us yearning for more.I must have heard it a hundred times, I still LOL when I listen to this family favorite:
Maadhu : " Aaamam, dei maruthu... bank aa kollayadikka sorangam thondren sorangam thondrennu solriye.. thondina satham varume da???"
Marudhu a.k.a erudhu : "Athellam plan pannamaya ithula yenrangirpom vadhyaare ... satham vandha varatum, kaathula panja vechundu thondrom!!!!"
Anyways, this weekend we took a trip to the Smoky mountains,Tennesse and North Carolina. It was a six hour drive down there.Hiking, barbeque, white water rafting ,Ripleys Believe-it-or-not museum and of course, millions of snaps were some predictable highlights. The Back-to reality monday saw me struggling to manage work, classes, assignment and sleep backlogs. But after a hours and hours of sniffing and encryption,I finally found the time to come back the routine mode. And do laundry, ironing, making India calls, replying to mails, and now of course blogging.(Only to go back to more of sockets, and digraphs and Active client mode soon, but i'd rather overlook that part, for now atleast!)
White water rafting is the most amazing thing ever.We rafted down three class IV bends , and we surfed up one, three times.(There are class I to VI , class V being dangerous and class VI being un-navigable!!!!)Of course, the scary part was when you think you will fall off the raft on the next class IV, but that was part of the fun too !!! Ripleys Musuem had some real amazing artefacts, like a shrunk-skull(I can hear people shout Eeeks!!! that is so Mulder-ish..but Yay!!!!) and a man who sculpted himself. He wanted it to be as close to real life as possible, and hence the sculpture has the mans own hair, toe and finger nails and even TEETH!!!!!Barbeque in the night was fun,I got to learn make some real nice coleslaw and some sort of capsicum-pineapple-onion sticks(which btw, wasn't too popular considering the abundance of beef around!!!).The trip also had a hike to laurel falls(which of course wasnt worth the God knows how many miles of trekking!!) and another trek upto the "Clingman's Dome".The entire adventure is recorded here.Heres a sneak preview.
I know the post sounds very abrupt, but so have I,lately. This post was originally about something widely different from what it is,but when Mani, in a sudden sprint of energy, uploaded ALL the snaps, I knew I had to write something about the trip.A real post tommorow.Till then adieu folks!!!Btw, It feels nice to know people check on you for regular updates, and even demand one when you are in this oh-what-do-I-write moods!!!!!
